Team Nutrixxion Sparkasse takes first season victory at Mallorca Challenge – with Connex bicycle chains!

Team Nutrixxion Sparkasse only has the best memories when thinking of Balearic Island Mallorca. After a successful performance at the Mallorca Challenge team manager Mark Claußmeyer’s equipe excelled themselves on the weekend. At the GP de Pueblo Park the guys from Bochum scored their first season victory. Responsible was Eric Baumann who had already shown his sprinter abilities a week before when competing against numerous Pro Tour teams at the Mallorca Challenge. Besides Baumann his new team mates Rene Obst and Mitja Schlüter started at the GP de Pueblo Park with start and finish in El Arenal. “After the Mallorca Challenge we wanted to further improve our shape and stayed in Mallorca. Thus the race over 110 km was the perfect addition to our training” Baumann commented the trio’s initiative. In light of Germany’s currently difficult weather conditions a smart move.

Early on it showed that they were already good in shape. The Nutrixxion trio controlled the race, dictated the speed from the front and attacked at mean climbs. “We wanted to really exert ourselves and successfully tried to minimise the field at the climbs” said Baumann. During the mass sprint of 50 riders the trio played it save. 15 km before the finish in El Arenal Rene Obst and Mitja Schlüter placed themselves in front of the field and stopped any attempt at breaking away. “They did a fantastic job and I clearly won ahead of Mathias Friedemann from Team Whirlpool” Baumann cheered. Mitja Schlüter reached a good fifth place.
